Tailoring uses cloths as main materials, but you don't need any gathering profession to gather cloths, so Tailoring can be combined with any gathering profession. One other popular choice is Enchanting, because you can craft a bunch of cloths then disenchant them and use the dusts and essences to level your enchanting. You will need thousands of cloths to level Tailoring, and it will cost a lot of gold to buy everything.
If you are low on gold, I recommend you to try this Gold Making Guide, it can help you to make loads of gold.
If you are still leveling your character or you just started a new alt, I recommend you to use a leveling guide. You can level your character to level 110 in 8 days with this guide.
Keep in mind, this Tailoring guide is made to level your profession as fast as possible, so sometimes the cloths you will make might not be the best items for your level or they won't be really profitable if you want to sell them.

Tailoring Leveling Guide 1 - 75
First, visit any trainer in the main cities of old Azeroth - just ask a guard, and learn Apprentice Tailoring.
You can buy "Threads" and "Dye" from the Tailoring supply vendors. If you want to farm your own cloths, check out my Linen Cloth farming guide.
- 1 - 45
130 x [Bolt of Linen Cloth] - 260 Linen Cloth
Stop making these if you reach Tailoring 45, and make more only if you need it. Make [Linen Belt] if you didn't reach 45.
- 45 - 70
35 x [Heavy Linen Gloves] - 70 Bolt of Linen Cloth
I recommend [Heavy Linen Gloves] instead of [Linen Belt] because you can make most of your gold back if you get someone to disenchant the gloves (You can't diseanchant white iteams). But if you don't plan on disenchanting the items you could make [Linen Belt] up to 50 because it takes only 1 [Bolt of Linen Cloth] instead of 2.

If you are still leveling your character and you are level 60, then at this point you can choose to go to Outland or Northrend. I recommend going to Northrend because it's a lot easier to level tailoring using Frostweave Cloth. (You will need 3 times more cloths if you want to level using Outland materials)
Check out my Frostweave Cloth farming guide if you want to farm the Frostweave Cloth.
- 275 - 332
57 x [Bolt of Frostweave] - 285 Frostweave Cloth
This one stays orange all the way up to 370, but don't make more of these! You will need 177 x [Bolt of Embersilk Cloth] for the 450-500 part and you will simply reach 450 by making them.

4 x [Spiritmend Leggings] - 16 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth
It is really important to stop making these at 484!
- 484 - 494
2 x [Embersilk Bag] - 30 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 30 Hypnotic Dust
You will get 5 skill points for each bag. You can also make two [Otherworldly Bag] instead of the Embersilk Bags, but it is usually harder to sell.
- 494 - 500
6 x [Spiritmend Robe] - 36 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth
Check your Calendar in-game to see if the Darkmoon Faire is open, the event starts at 00:01 on the Sunday before the 1st Monday of each month.

Every recipe that you can discover will grant you 5 skill points, but the number of cloths required to make them is different. If you didn't discover a Dreadful Gladiator PvP item recipe, but an epic item recipe, you will have to make another Imperial Cloth the next day, or until you discover a pvp item recipe.
600 - 700
Requires level 90.
Things change a bit in Warlords of Draenor because you no longer learn the next rank from your trainer. You have to get a [Draenor Tailoring] scroll to upgrade your maximum Tailoring skill to 700. This scroll will also teach you a few basic recipes which you will use to level Tailoring.
There are three ways to obtain this scroll:
- You can buy it from the Tailoring trainers in Ashran. Alliance players can find Steven Cochrane at Stormshield, and Horde players can find Petir Starocean at Warspear.
- If you build a Tailoring Emporium at your garrion, you can buy the scroll from one of the NPC at the building.
- If you are still leveling your character (90-92), you have to loot a quest item to start a quest chain.
- 600 - 650
There are 3 recipes that you can use to level to 650. It doesen't matter which one you choose, they all require 50 Sumptuous Fur and give 10 skill points when you craft them.
These recipes are: [Sumptuous Cowl], [Sumptuous Leggings], [Sumptuous Robes]
You will need to craft 5 from one of these so you will need 250 Sumptuous Fur for this part.
- 650 - 700
Create [Secrets of Draenor Tailoring] and use it to buy [Hexweave Embroidery] at your Tailoring Emporium, or at Ashran from the vendors near the Tailoring trainer mentioned previously.
17 x [Hexweave Embroidery] - 510 x Sumptuous Fur
If you character is level 100 already, you can jump to the Legion Tailoring leveling guide to continue leveling Tailoring. If not, then you can't level further until you reach level 100.
