Dragonflight Engineering Leveling Guide 1 - 100

This Dragonflight Engineering leveling guide will show you the fastest and easiest way how to level your Dragonflight Engineering skill up from 1 to 100.

Engineering is the best combined with Mining, and I highly recommend to level Mining and Engineering together because you will need a lot of gold if you want to buy everything from the Auction House. Check out my Mining leveling guide if you're going to level Mining.

New Dragonflight Engineering features

There are a lot of new stats added to professions in Dragonflight, so here is a quick explanation for some of these.

Recipe Difficulty

Recipe Difficulty shows you how much profession skill is required to make a recipe at the highest quality. You can see your current profession Skill below the Recipe Difficulty stat. Your Skill comes from your base profession skill, specializations, profession equipment, racials, and using high-quality reagents. So, your profession skill can go well above 100.

Item Quality

Every crafted piece of Engineering armor and weapon has 5 different qualities. Engineering Crafted Reagents, Enchantments, and Consumable items have 3 different qualities.

Basically, if you have higher skill, you can make higher ilvl gear, higher quality consumables that give more stat, and higher quality reagents that give more profession skill when used in recipes.

Inspiration, Multicraft, Resourcefulness

  • Inspiration: Each time you craft something, there is a chance you get Inspired and craft the recipe with some bonus profession skill, so you can craft an item with higher quality than you could normally.
  • Resourcefulness: You have a chance to use fewer reagents.
  • Multicraft: You have a chance to craft additional items. (doesn't work on crafted gear, only consumables and reagents)

Dragon Isles Engineering Knowledge

Dragon Isles Engineering Knowledge points are the "talent points" that you can put into your profession specialization to learn new skills, stats, and bonuses.

Crafting Orders

Crafting Orders are a new way for players to request a crafter to craft something for them. The interface looks like the Auction House, but instead of players posting Auctions, it will be filled with Crafting Orders that you can complete as a Blacksmith.

Completing crafting orders can give you skill points if you complete orders for items that would normally give you a skill point.

Commission

Players posting the Crafting Orders can set a commission for the crafter who completes their order. But since they are also providing the reagents for the items, the commission will probably be pretty low for trainer-taught and common recipes.

How to Complete Crafting Orders

Clicking on the Crafting Orders tab at the bottom of your profession window will open up the Crafting Order UI, where you can browse Crafting Orders posted by other players. You must be near a Crafting Table for your profession to be able to access Crafting Orders.

Engineering Crafting Table location

You can find the Engineering crafting table in Valdrakken on the small platform marked in the picture below.

Leveling Dragonflight Engineering

Gnome characters have +15 Engineering skill because of their passive Engineering Specialization, and Kul Tiran characters have +5 from the trait Jack of All Trades.

Any extra Engineering skill means recipes stay orange for more points. You can save a lot of gold by doing lower-level recipes for more points.

Shopping List

This is the total number of raw materials needed to reach 50. The 50-100 part is not included here because there are too many variables.

1 - 15

80x Handful of Serevite Bolts

You will need around 200x Handful of Serevite Bolts to reach 50. (you get 2-3 when you craft one)

15 - 25

23x Shock-Spring Coil - 64x Rousing Earth, 138x Handful of Serevite Bolts
9x Greased-Up Gears - 27x Rousing Fire, 18x Handful of Serevite Bolts, 36x Draconium Ore

You will need around 12x Greased-Up Gears and 34x Shock-Spring Coil to reach 50. (they both give 1-2 when you craft one)

First Craft Bonus

You will get 1x Dragon Isles Engineering Knowledge talent point each time you craft something for the first time. Dragon Isles Engineering Knowledge is very valuable and has a weekly cap from other sources. So, instead of leveling Engineering and then going back to craft grey recipes, this leveling guide is designed in a way to get the "First Craft Bonus" from most items while they give you skill points.

Engineering Specializations

When you hit 25, you will unlock Specializations. I would suggest having a little bit of a look through the specializations. Spend some time reading through them, then choose which direction you might want to go.

But don't be too hasty with spending points just at this time unless you have a clear goal of which direction you wanna go. The Knowledge points are going to be the limited commodity that you will never be able to get enough of, and you will always want more of. You can continue leveling your profession and return to choosing a specialization and spending knowledge points a bit later.

You will need 50 skill points to unlock the second specialization, 65 for the third, and 75 for the fourth. 50 is very easy to reach, but it may take you a little while to level all the way to 75. So, be aware that you will have to choose which one you feel you can do without for the longest.

25 - 37

I recommend crafting one from each Profession Equipment to get your "First Craft Bonus".

You can buy Smudged Lens from the Engineering Supply Vendor.

1x Bottomless Stonecrust Ore Satchel 2x Handful of Serevite Bolts
5x Draconium Ore
1x Draconium Delver's Helmet 2x Handful of Serevite Bolts
2x Draconium Ore
1x Draconium Encased Samophlange 2x Handful of Serevite Bolts
2x Shock-Spring Coil
1x Greased-Up Gears
2x Draconium Ore
1x Lapidary's Draconium Clamps 2x Handful of Serevite Bolts
1x Greased-Up Gears
3x Draconium Ore
1x Draconium Brainwave Amplifier 2x Handful of Serevite Bolts
2x Shock-Spring Coil
2x Draconium Ore
1x Spring-Loaded Draconium Fabric Cutters 3x Handful of Serevite Bolts
3x Shock-Spring Coil
4x Draconium Ore

37 - 39

First Craft Bonus.

1x Draconium Fisherfriend 2x Handful of Serevite Bolts
1x Greased-Up Gears
2x Shock-Spring Coil
3x Draconium Ore

39 - 44

You will need at least 2x Arclight Capacitor and 1x Reinforced Machine Chassis for the ilvl 382 epic engineering goggles. I recommend making the components for it now while they give you skill points.

You can't go wrong with crafting these because even if, for some reason, you don't need the goggles, they are used in almost every high-level engineering recipe.

2x Arclight Capacitor 2x Awakened Order
4x Shock-Spring Coil
2x Greased-Up Gears
4x Khaz'gorite Ore
1x Reinforced Machine Chassis 1x Awakened Earth
4x Handful of Serevite Bolts
1x Shock-Spring Coil
1x Greased-Up Gears

44 - 50

Craft one Tinker Removal Kit for your first craft bonus, then switch to Overcharged Overclocker.

1x Tinker Removal Kit 3x Handful of Serevite Bolts
2x Shock-Spring Coil
2x Draconium Ore
5x Overcharged Overclocker 25x Rousing Fire
12x Handful of Serevite Bolts
15x Shock-Spring Coil

50 - 60 (Optional)

You can craft Overcharged Overclocker until 60 if you want to reach 100 faster. The recipe will be green for the last 3 points, so you will have to craft around 15-20. You can skip this part and jump to the next if you don't want to waste too much gold on leveling Engineering.

15x Overcharged Overclocker 75x Rousing Fire
30x Handful of Serevite Bolts
45x Shock-Spring Coil

You could even make it up to 65 if you don't have any other alternatives, but the recipe is close to turning grey, so you will get skill points much less frequently.

50 - 100

You can now craft the epic Engineering Goggles, and you can learn every single Dragonflight recipe from vendors (they still require Renown). The 50-100 part should be done with Crafting Orders if possible, but I'm gonna list some alternatives.

It's clear to me that Blizzard wanted players to use the Crafting Order system to level up their profession from around 50 or 75. But the reality is that so few people use the system that it's almost impossible to level your profession right now. Crafting Orders are not cross-realm, so if you play on a low-population realm, the situation is even worse. In one Week, I couldn't complete a single crafting order for any of the epic pieces.

Explosives Specializations

If you have the Explosives specializations unlocked, the Suspiciously Ticking Crate and Suspiciously Silent Crate give skill points up to 100. Unfortunately, they have a 20-hour cooldown, but you could level with these up to 100 slowly. (the CD is not shared)

Devices, Tinkers, and Optional Reagents

Most of these below are unlocked through Engineering specializations. They will only give you skill points up to 75!

They are not BoP, so you can level with these without the crafting order system and try to sell them, but they are expensive to craft.

These can also be crafted with crafting orders, but I haven't seen many posted, probably because most people will buy them from the Auction House instead.

Engineering Crafting Orders

I'll list the recipes from vendors and specializations that you can use for completing Crafting Orders. These are the only recipes that give skill points between 75-100.

Since the whole Crafting Order system is new and untested, I cannot say which recipes are the best ones yet. I recommend using the "Show Unlearned" filter in the Crafting Order UI to see which recipes have the highest demand.

Engineering Goggles

The 4 epic Engineering Goggles you learn from the trainer at 50 give skill points up to 100. Unfortunately, these can only be used by Engineers. So, probably not many players will post crafting orders for these.

Engineering Bracers

You can discover 4 Bracer recipes from crafting engineering goggles after you put 5 points into Function Over Form specialization, then choose the Gear sub-specializations.

You don't have to craft epic goggles, you can discover the recipes from the rare goggles or the P.E.W. x2 Gun. I got all four recipes by crafting around 40 P.E.W. x2 Gun.
