Alchemy Leveling Guide for players below level 90

This Alchemy leveling guide will show you the fastest way how to level your Alchemy skill up from 1 to 700 as inexpensively as possible.

Alchemy is the best combined with Herbalism. You can save a lot of gold if you level these two professions together because you can farm all the needed herbs. Check out the Herbalism leveling guide if you want to level Herbalism. If you don't have Herbalism, make sure you have enough gold to buy herbs because you will need a lot of them.

Often the materials are based on a case that you will gain one skill point each craft. This won't happen, so you will have to buy a few extra materials while you are leveling your Alchemy.

If you are low on gold, I recommend you to try this Gold Making Guide, it can help you to make loads of gold.

If you are still leveling your character or you just started a new alt, I recommend you to use a leveling guide. You can level your character to level 110 in 8 days with this guide.

Alchemy Leveling Guide 1 - 60

First, visit any trainer in the main cities of old Azeroth - just ask a guard, and learn Apprentice Alchemy.

You can find Vials at "Alchemy Supplies" vendors, they are usually near the Alchemy trainer.

If you have a Goblin character, use my Goblin Alchemy leveling guide instead of this.

  • 1-60
    59 x [Minor Healing Potions] - 59 Peacebloom, 59 Silverleaf

You'll need these in the next step of the Alchemy guide.

60 - 140

Learn Alchemy Journeyman.

140 - 205

Learn Alchemy Expert.

205 - 285

Learn Alchemy Artisan.

  • 205-215
    10 x [Elixir of Greater Defense] - 10 Wild Steelbloom, 10 Goldthorn

Read the end of the previous section if you don't have Goldthorn.

  • 215-239
    25 x [Superior Healing Potion] - 25 Sungrass, 25 Khadgar's Whisker

You can make this one up to 250 if it's easier for you to get Sungrass instead of Blindweed.

If you are at or above level 90, you can skip the next step because you will use [Draenic Philosopher's Stone] for transmutes. You can get this recipe from your Garrison's Alchemy lab.

285 - 350

Visit your trainer and learn Alchemy Master.

  • 335-340
    5 x [Super Healing Potion] - 10 Netherbloom, 5 Felweed

Make the previous recipe 5 more times if you don't have Netherbloom.

350 - 425

Visit your trainer and learn Alchemy Grand Master.

You can make [Pygmy Oil] up to 385 if you can find some cheap Pygmy Suckerfish.

  • 385-395
10 x [Elixir of Mighty Strength] - 20 Tiger Lily

This recipe will be yellow for the last 5 points, you might need to make more than 10.

  • 415-425
This recipe turns green at 422, so you might need to make more than 20.

    20 x [Runic Mana Potion] - 20 Goldclover, 40 Lichbloom

425 - 500

Visit your trainer and learn Alchemy Illustrious.

Once you reach an Alchemy skill of 475, you may begin a quest to learn one of three specializations: Potions, Elixirs or Transmutations. Being specialized gives you a chance to create an extra 1 to 4 (for a total 5) items while crafting in the field you have selected. For example, a Master of Potions may be able to craft more than one [Super Mana Potion] for the same material cost as one.

Note: Specializations don't work on Warlords of Draenor recipes.

500 - 600

Learn Zen Alchemy.

From this point there are some significant changes to the leveling process. The trainers will only teach you 2 Pandarian recipes at 500 skill. These two recipes are used to unlock additional recipes. As a result there is no set progression in crafting for skill points.

Visit my Green Tea Leaf farming guide if you want to farm Green Tea Leaf. You can also find farming guides on the site for every herbs in pandaria.

Make your trinket [Zen Alchemist Stone] if you need it.

At this point you probably discovered 5-8 new recipes. You should always prioritize potions that use Green Tea Leaf because it can be found in every zone and most likely it is always the cheapest herb.

How to determine which potions to make:

[Green Tea Leaf] > [Silkweed] > [Rain Poppy] > [Snow Lily] > [Fool's Cap]

You should save around 25 each of these herbs: Green Tea Leaf, Snow Lily and Fool's Cap. You will need them to reach 600 from 575 when you discover the new Mana Potion recipe. It will be the only orange recipe that you can use.

  • 530-545
If you have loads of Green Tea Leaf, you could just make the previous potions until you keep discovering new recipes. Once you make a green potion around 8 times and there was no new discovery, you should stop making it and start making a higher level potion in the list below.

I made a priority list of the recipes you probably discovered, Mantid Elixir is usually the best recipe you can get. This list is based on how hard is to get a particular herb, but obviously if you have 20 Green Tea Leaf and 150 Rain Poppy, you should make a potion that use 2 Rain Poppy.

    Choose only one.

    1. 15 x [Mantid Elixir] - 30 Green Tea Leaf
    2. 15 x [Potion of the Jade Serpent] - 15 Green Tea Leaf, 15 Silkweed
    3. 15 x [Elixir of Weaponry] - 30 Silkweed
    4. 15 x [Potion of the Mountains] - 15 Green Tea Leaf, 15 Rain Poppy
    5. 15 x [Mad Hozen Elixir]- 30 Rain Poppy

  • 545-575
    Choose only one.

    35 x [Virmen's Bite] - 35 Snow Lily, 35 Green Tea Leaf
35 x [Elixir of Perfection] 35 Snow Lily, 35 Silkweed
35 x [Elixir of the Rapids] 35 Snow Lily, 35 Rain Poppy

There are 3 other potions that you can discover, they require Fool's Cap instead of Snow lily, so if you have loads of Fool's Cap, you can make those potions instead.

Between 570-580, you will discover [Master Mana Potion]. When you discover the recipe, you should start making it if your skill is at around 575, but the maximum I would recommend to make the potions above is until you reach 577.

  • 575-600
If you didn't discover this recipe yet because you were unlucky , you will have to make the previous recipes, or any other transmute recipe.

Or you can just simply skip to the next part. There is no skill requirement for the Walords of Draenor recipes.

    25 x [Master Mana Potion] - 25 Green Tea Leaf, 25 Snow Lily, 25 Fool's Cap

600 - 700

You need to be level 90 and have access to Draenor for this part.

Note: Alchemy specializations don't work on Warlords of Draenor recipes.

Things change a bit in Warlords of Draenor because you no longer learn the next rank from your trainer. After you learned Alchemy, you have to get a [A Treatise on the Alchemy of Draenor] to upgrade your maximum Alchemy skill to 700, and it will also teach you a few basic recipes.

There are three ways to obtain this scroll:

Obtaining new recipes

The recipes your learned from the scroll are only good for leveling between 1-650. New recipes can be purchased at your Alchemy Lab, or at Ashran.

When you learn [A Treatise on the Alchemy of Draenor], you get the recipe [Secrets of Draenor Alchemy]. This recipe is needed to create the currency [Secret of Draenor Alchemy] that you can use to buy new recipes. You can only make one from this currency each day.

Leveling 600-650

Note: Alchemy specializations don't work on Warlords of Draenor recipes.

Alchemy is the easiest and the cheapest profession to level. You can craft any of the Warlords of Draenor recipes from Level 1, so there are a lot of different recipes you can use to level. I recommend on of these five:

[Draenic Agility Potion] - Crystal Vial, 3 x Fireweed
[Draenic Armor Potion] - Crystal Vial, 3 x Frostweed
[Draenic Intellect Potion] - Crystal Vial, 3 x Talador Orchid
[Draenic Strength Potion] - Crystal Vial, 3 x Nagrand Arrowbloom
[Draenic Mana Potion] - Crystal Vial, 3 x Gorgrond Flytrap

You only learn the mana potion from the scroll, but you can buy the rest of them from vendors at Ashran. Horde players can find Joshua Alvarez at Warspear, and Alliance players can find Katherine Joplin at Stormshield. You can also buy these recipes from the Alchemy Lab at your garrison.

I recommend these because these are the easiest to sell. You won't make that much gold from selling them because they usually sell almost for the same price as the herbs used for them, but at least you can get all of your gold back.

So, basically get either 75 from one of the herbs above and make 25 from the same potion (1 potions gives 2 skill-up).

Leveling 650-700

Create one [Secrets of Draenor Alchemy]. Use the [Secret of Draenor Alchemy] to buy one of the flask recipes at your Alchemy Lab, or in Ashran, Horde players can find Joshua Alvarez at Warspear, and Alliance players can find Katherine Joplin at Stormshield.

[Draenic Agility Flask] - 4 Fireweed, 4 Starflower
[Draenic Intellect Flask] - 4 Talador Orchid, 4 Starflower
[Draenic Stamina Flask] - 4 Talador Orchid, 4 Nagrand Arrowbloom
[Draenic Strength Flask] - 4 Gorgrond Flytrap, 4 Nagrand Arrowbloom

You basically have to make 50 from one of these flasks, or you can mix it up and make like 25 each, but then you have to wait at least 4 days to buy all recipes.

If you character is level 100 already, you can jump to the Legion Alchemy leveling guide to continue leveling Alchemy. If not, you can't level further until you reach level 100.
