MoP Classic Alchemy Guide – Overview, Bonuses & Recipes

This guide includes everything you need to know about Alchemy in MoP Classic: recipes, discoveries, transmutes, and profession perks. Mists of Pandaria adds a few new items but keeps the core systems you're already familiar with.

For the 1-600 leveling path, check out the Alchemy Leveling Guide.

Alchemy Perks in MoP

  • Mixology – Doubles flask duration and increases their stat bonuses for the alchemist. +320 Strength, Agility, Intellect, or +480 Stamina, Spirit
  • Alchemist's Flask – BoP item that grants flask effects without consuming one (No spirit). Great for leveling or older content.
  • Zen Alchemist Stone – Decent ilvl 458 trinket that was widely used for early challenge modes.

Learning Recipes and Discovery

You only learn two recipes from the trainer at 500 skill. Every other recipe is discovered through crafting. Making potions, flasks, or transmutes has a chance to teach you a new one.

There are no reputation recipes in MoP Classic for Alchemy – everything comes from discovery.

You can discover all recipes using cheap potions, but the number you can learn is limited by your current skill. For example, at 500 skill you might only discover 1-2 recipes. Once you hit that cap, you’ll need to level up before you can discover more.

Because of this, it’s best to level Alchemy to 600 first, then use cheap potions to discover everything efficiently.

Daily Cooldown

Transmute: Living Steel is your main daily cooldown. Living Steel is used in high-end crafts and every belt buckle, so this cooldown is always valuable.

There’s also an alternate version: Riddle of Steel. This one has no cooldown but costs 3x Spirit of Harmony.

Specializations

You can still specialize in:

  • Potion Master – Bonus procs when crafting potions
  • Elixir Master – Bonus procs on flasks and elixirs
  • Transmutation Master – Bonus procs on transmutes

Pick the one that matches your main focus. Transmute Master is great early on due to Living Steel demand.
