WotLK Classic Engineering Leveling Guide 1-450

This WotLK Classic Engineering leveling guide will show you the fastest and easiest way to level your Engineering skill up from 1 to 450 in Wrath of the Lich King Classic.

I recommend trying Zygor's 1-80 Leveling Guide if you are still leveling your character or you just started a new alt. The guide will help you to reach level 80 a lot faster.

Leveling WotLK Engineering

Buy a Blacksmith Hammer from the Blacksmith supply vendor, it's usually near your trainer. (or any general/trade goods vendor)

Gnome Engineering skill racial bonus

Gnome characters have +15 Engineering skill because of their passive Engineering Specialization. An extra 15 Engineering skill means recipes stay orange 15 points longer, so you can save a lot of gold by doing lower level recipes for 15 more points.

1 - 75

  • 1 - 30
60x Rough Blasting Powder - 60 Rough Stone

You might even reach 40 with this recipe. You will need the 60 Rough Blasting Powder later, so keep these.

  • 50 - 51
    1x Arclight Spanner - 6 Copper Bar

You will use this to craft engineering recipes so keep it.

  • 51 - 75
30x Rough Copper Bomb - 30 Copper Bar, 30 Handful of Copper Bolts, 60 Rough Blasting Powder, 30 Linen Cloth

Journeyman Engineering

Visit your trainer and learn Journeyman Engineering. (Requires level 10)

75 - 135

  • 105 - 125
25x Bronze Tube - 50 Bronze Bar, 25 Weak Flux

Weak Flux is sold by Engineering Supply vendors near your trainer.

Expert Engineering

Visit your trainer and learn Expert Engineering. (Requires level 20)

135 - 200

  • 150 - 160
15x Bronze Framework - 30 Bronze Bar, 15 Medium Leather, 15 Wool Cloth

    Keep these too.

By making them now, you might get a lot further - probably towards 160, then stop making these and only make more when you'll need them.

  • 160 -175
15x Explosive Sheep - 30 Heavy Blasting Powder, 15 Whirring Bronze Gizmo, 15 Bronze Framework, 30 Wool Cloth

Keep 5 of these, you might need it if you choose Goblin Engineering at 200.

  • 175 -176
    1x Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor - 4 Steel Bar

Keep this, you will need it to craft some of the Engineering recipes.

  • 195 - 200
    7x Mithril Tube - 21 Mithril Bar

Stop making these when you reach 200. Keep 6 Mithril Tubes, because you might need them if you choose Gnomish Engineering at 200.

Artisan Engineering

Visit your trainer and learn Artisan Engineering. (Requires level 35)

Engineering has the option at skill level 200 to specialize in Gnomish Engineer or Goblin Engineer. Some items require a specific specialization to use, while other items are crafted by one specialization but are usable by any engineer. Fortunately, most recipes that are crafted by one Specialization can be worn by both.

For information on how to choose a specialization, please see my separate guide:

Engineering Specializations in WotLK Classic

200 - 300

  • 200 - 215
20x Unstable Trigger - 20 Mithril Bar, 20 Mageweave Cloth, 20 Solid Blasting Powder

    Save these.

  • 238 - 250

  • 250 - 260
30x Dense Blasting Powder - 60 Dense Stone

Keep at least 15 of these, you will need them at 285. Also, you might need to make more than 30 to reach 260.

  • 260 - 285
    35x Thorium Widget - 105 Thorium Bar, 35 Runecloth

It will be yellow for the last few points so you might have to make a few more to reach 285.

  • 285 - 300
15x Thorium Shells - 30 Thorium Bar, 15 Dense Blasting Powder

Master Engineering

You can learn the Master Engineering skill from these trainers below. (Requires level 50)

Alliance:

Horde:

  • Zebig in Hellfire Peninsula at Thrallmar.
  • Mack Diver in Zangarmarsh at Zabra'jin.

300 - 320

You will use these later, so make them now for free skill points.

Crafting one Elemental Blasting Powder creates 4 powders, so you will end up with 80 in total.

You might have to make a few more Fel Iron Bomb in the next step if you don't reach 320.

320 - 325

10x Fel Iron Bomb - 10x Fel Iron Casing, 20x Handful of Fel Iron Bolts, 10x Elemental Blasting Powder

You might need to make more of these if you are unlucky with the skill point gains.

325 - 335

10x Adamantite Grenade - 40x Adamantite Bar, 20x Handful of Fel Iron Bolts, 10x Elemental Blasting Powder

335 - 350

60x White Smoke Flare - 60x Elemental Blasting Powder, 60x Netherweave Cloth

This will be green for the most part, so this is just an approximate number.

The Schematic: White Smoke Flare recipe is sold by these vendors:

It's a limited supply item, so if someone bought it before you, you must wait for it to respawn, or you can check the other vendors. (around 7-10 min respawn timer)

WotLK Classic Engineering

You can learn the new WotLK Classic Engineering skill from the NPCs below. (Requires level 65)

Horde:

Alliance:

Both factions can also learn it from Timofey Oshenko at Dalaran.

350 - 375

You will need around 50x Handful of Cobalt Bolts and 24x Volatile Blasting Trigger later. Make these now, and you should reach 375 or probably more. Make sure that you make the Handful of Cobalt Bolts before making Volatile Blasting Trigger. (Volatile Blasting Trigger stay yellow longer, so it's better to make them later)

Note that when you craft Handful of Cobalt Bolts you can get 1 or 3 bolts, and the same goes for Volatile Blasting Trigger, you will get 2 for each craft.

Save both of these.

375 - 435

  • 375 - 385
10x Overcharged Capacitor - 40 Cobalt Bar, 10 Crystallized Earth

Save these too. You will need them.

  • 385 - 390
7x Explosive Decoy - 7 Frostweave Cloth, 21 Volatile Blasting Trigger

You might have to make a few more from this.

  • 390 - 400
15x Froststeel Tube - 120 Cobalt Bar, 15 Crystallized Water

Save these too. You will need them later. You will probably reach more than 400, then stop making these and make more only if you need them.

  • 405 - 410
5x Box of Bombs - 25 Saronite Bar, 5 Volatile Blasting Trigger
  • 410 - 415
5x Goblin Beam Welder - 30 Saronite Bar, 15 Crystallized Fire, 15 Crystallized Water
  • 425 - 430
7x Mechanized Snow Goggles - 56 Saronite Bar, 14 Borean Leather, 7 Eternal Shadow

Make Global Thermal Sapper Charge between 425-430, if you are a Goblin Engineer.

If you are planning on crafting the portable mailbox MOLL-E, you should craft it at 429 because it's still a guaranteed skill point. The goggles are getting close to turning green, so they have a lower chance of giving you a skill point at 429.

  • 430 - 435
5x Noise Machine - 10 Froststeel Tube, 10 Overcharged Capacitor, 40 Handful of Cobalt Bolts

435 - 450

30x Gnomish Army Knife - 300 Saronite Bar, 30 Skinning Knife, 30 Mining Pick, 30 Blacksmithing Hammer

This recipe will be green for the last 5 points, so you will probably have to make more than 30, but it should still be cheaper than making any other items, even if you have to make 10 for 1 skill point.

You can buy Mining Pick and Blacksmith Hammer from Bryan Landers near your trainer. The Skinning Knife is sold by Ranid Glowergold.

Epic Engineering Goggles and Wormhole Generator

If you want to level engineering to 450 and not just 440, I recommend making the Wormhole Generator: Northrend and your epic Engineering Helm later at 448.

Gnomish Army Knife will be green from 445, so you will have to craft a lot of them for the last 2 points (sometimes 10-20 per point). However, the Goggles and the Wormhole Generator: Northrend stay orange up to 450, so you could save a lot of gold by making them later.

If you don't need the goggle, make the Wormhole Generator: Northrend at 449.

Congratulations on reaching 450! Please send feedback about the guide if you think there are parts I could improve or if you found typos, errors, or wrong material numbers!
