Vanilla Leatherworking Leveling Guide 1-300

This Leatherworking leveling guide will show you the fastest way how to level your Leatherworking skill up from 1 to 300 as inexpensively as possible.

Professions skills are split between expansions now, you'll have a separate skill bar for each expansion. This guide is for the "Vanilla" Leatherworking skill in the current retail version of World of Warcraft. I have a separate guide for Classic WoW, so if you are looking for that, visit my Classic WoW Leatherworking leveling guide.

Often the materials are based on a case that you will gain one skill point for each craft. This won't happen, so you will have to buy a few extra materials while you are leveling your Leatherworking.

Approximate materials required

  • 57 Ruined Leather Scraps
  • 15 Medium Hide
  • 260 Light Leather
  • 160 Medium Leather
  • 20 Heavy Hide
  • 220 Heavy Leather
  • 410 Thick Leather
  • 410 Rugged Leather

1 - 100

First, visit any trainer in the main cities of old Azeroth - just ask a guard, and learn Leatherworking.

Check out my farming guides if you want to farm the leathers instead of buying them. You can start with Light Leather farming.

NOTE: You can buy the threads, dyes, and salt from Leatherworking Supply vendors near your trainer.

  • 1-20
    19 x [Light Leather] - 57 Ruined Leather Scraps

Make the next recipe if you don't have Ruined Leather Scraps.

  • 85-100
    15 x [Fine Leather Belt] - 90 Light Leather, 30 Coarse Thread

Keep these, you will need them.

100 - 155

Check out my Medium Leather farming guide if you want to farm the leathers.

IMPORTANT! I must also mention that later on you will need 20 Heavy Hide to level leatherworking, and while you farm the hides you will get a bunch of Medium Hide, Medium Leather, and Heavy Leather. I recommend checking out my Heavy Hide farming guide if you have a level 60+ character, and farm the Heavy Hide before you farm Heavy Leather and Medium Leather. Farming the 20 Heavy Hide can take a few hours, so don't forget to check the Auction House, sometimes you can find cheap Heavy Hide.

155 - 200

Check out my Heavy Leather farming guide if you want to farm the leathers.

  • 155-165
You will need the Cured Heavy Hides later.

    20 x [Cured Heavy Hide] - 20 Heavy Hide, 60 Salt

If you have Skinning, then visit my Heavy Hide farming guide. Don't forget to check the Auction House, sometimes you can find cheap Heavy Hide.

Below you can find an alternative way if you don't have any Heavy Hides at all, which is usually the case since Heavy Hide has a pretty low drop rate. But if for example, you can get 5 Heavy Hides, you should stop making Barbaric Leggings at 195 and start making Guardian Gloves.

  • 165-180
    20 x [Heavy Armor Kit] - 100 Heavy Leather, 20 Fine Thread

This recipe will be yellow for the last 10 points, so you might have to make more (or fewer).

  • 190-200
10 x [Guardian Gloves] - 40 Heavy Leather, 10 Cured Heavy Hide, 10 Silken Thread

200 - 250

Check out my Thick Leather farming guide if you want to farm the leathers.

250 - 300

Check out my Rugged Leather farming guide if you want to farm the leathers.

  • 265-290
25 x [Wicked Leather Bracers] - 200 Rugged Leather, 25 Black Dye, 25 Rune Thread

The recipe is yellow for the last few points, you might need to make more.

If 4 Heavy Scorpid Scale are cheaper than 4 Rugged Leather, you can craft the following item:

[Heavy Scorpid Bracers] - Recipe location

Or make [Frostsaber Boots] if one Essence of Water is cheaper than 4 Rugged Leather on your realm.

I hope you liked this Leatherworking leveling guide, congratulations on reaching 300!
