This WoW Forever Leatherworking leveling guide will show you the fastest and cheapest way to level your Leatherworking skill from 1 to 300. You will also find every trainer location and where to train Leatherworking past 75, 150 and 225.
Below you will find the full shopping list, the Leatherworking trainers by starting zone and capital city, and the cheapest recipes for every skill range from Apprentice to Artisan. Where two recipes are close in price, both are listed with a simple rule for which one to make. Skinning pairs well with Leatherworking because leather is most of the cost, but everything in the guide can also be bought from the Auction House.
Shopping List
These numbers are estimates. Once a recipe turns yellow you won't get a skill point from every craft, so you might need a few more or a few less.
NOTE: You can buy the threads, dyes, and salt from Leatherworking Supply vendors near your trainer.
- 100x
Ruined Leather Scraps or 60x
Light Leather (whichever is cheaper) - 200-240x

Medium Leather - 25x
Medium Hide or 270x
Medium Leather (whichever is cheaper) - 145x

Gray Dye - The list stops at 150. With the beta level cap where it is, that is as far as most people will get for now. The steps past 150 are in the guide. I will extend the list when the cap goes up to 30, and post the full one once Forever is live.

- 1-30
33x
Light Leather - 100 Ruined Leather Scraps
It turns yellow at 20, so a few crafts won't give a point.
If you bought Light Leather instead of scraps, skip this and start making Light Armor Kits.
- 30-45
20x
Light Armor Kit - 20 Light Leather
The kits are yellow from 30, count on a few extra.
If you skipped the scraps and start from 1, you will need around 50 Light Armor Kits to reach 45.

Embossed Leather Gloves - 30 Light Leather, 20 Coarse Thread
Journeyman Leatherworking (55-130)
You can only train Leatherworking past 75 if you learn Journeyman Leatherworking. It requires Leatherworking 50 and level 10, and not every trainer teaches it, you have to find an Expert Leatherworker.

- Cured Medium Hide if 25x
Medium Hide cost less than around 270x
Medium Leather. - Leveling with Medium Leather if they cost more.
You can also mix them. Every Cured Medium Hide you get turns one Fine Leather Belt into a Dark Leather Belt between 100 and 125.

Expert Leatherworking (130-225)
To become an Expert Leatherworker you need Leatherworking 125 and level 20, then find an Expert Leatherworking trainer. It costs 50 silver.
You can learn Expert Leatherworking from
Una in Thunder Bluff (Horde) and
Telonis in Darnassus (Alliance).
There are two routes from 130 to 175, pick the cheaper one:
- Cured Heavy Hide if 20x
Heavy Hide cost less than around 200x
Heavy Leather and 15x
Moss Agate. - Leveling with Heavy Leather if they cost more.
You can also mix them. For example, with around 5 Heavy Hides, make 5x Cured Heavy Hide, then stop making Dusky Bracers at 170 and switch to Guardian Gloves.

Leveling from 175 to 200
The beta level cap is 20 right now (30 soon) and
Thick Leather only drops from level 40 mobs, so Heavy Leather will probably be the cheaper way to level here until the cap goes up. I keep both routes here until then.
- 175-185
10x
Barbaric Harness - 140 Heavy Leather, 20 Fine Thread, 10 Iron Buckle
- 185-200
18x

- 205-225
20x
Nightscape Pants - 280 Thick Leather, 80 Silken Thread
Artisan Leatherworking (225-300)
To train Leatherworking past 225 you need Leatherworking 200 and level 35, then find an Artisan Leatherworking trainer.
You can learn Artisan Leatherworking from
Hahrana Ironhide in Camp Mojache, Feralas (Horde) and
Drakk Stonehand in Aerie Peak, The Hinterlands (Alliance).
This section can't be tested on the beta right now. I have a rough draft based on the datamined skill ranges and what I expect the materials to cost, and I will probably post it later, but everything here will only be tested properly after live, once I can get high enough to level through it. Meanwhile I'm checking vendors for recipe changes.
A lot of skill ranges changed compared to Classic Era, so don't follow the Classic guide for this part, most of its recipes turn grey 25 points earlier in Forever.
